zz dry run Three simple rules for choosing ebook cover colors

Your cover is the first thing people see, often before they read a single word. You don't need to be a designer to get the colors right. Here are three simple rules.

1. Pick one main color. Choose one strong color for the background and let it do most of the work.

2. Make the title easy to read. Use dark text on a light background, or light text on a dark one. If you have to squint, change it.

3. Use three colors at most. One main color, one for the text, and one small accent. More than that starts to look busy.

Before you decide, shrink your cover down to the size of a phone screen. If you can still read the title, you're done.
